Our daughter Juliane’s softball team lost their second game last Saturday and was knocked out of the tournament by a group of Amazon 5th graders. The girls did well but were clearly overmatched. We were both very proud of Juliane and her whole team
Clay is on a great team. They hadn’t lost yet, and seemed to be stacked going into their game on Wednesday Night. A win would have put them straight to the championship game on Saturday, and losing meant a game on Friday night to extend their season through the losers bracket. Friday, here we come!
Their performance was legendary. I’ve watched baseball literally my entire 39 years of life, and on Wednesday I witnessed something I’ve never seen before. By the time the 4th inning rolled around and the Mercy Rule took affect, Clay’s China Spring Dodgers walked off the field being on the wrong side of a 25-0 thumping. Just to remind you, this is baseball, not football, not basketball, not dominoes – all games where you score more than one point at a time, but baseball where everyone run is measured by being earned. Again, the score was 25-0.
If we win on Friday we get to play the same team for the championship on Saturday, where we’ll have to win twice. Of course, if they score a third of the runs they did on Wednesday and we score twice as many, they’ll beat us 7-0! Should be fun either way, one thing for sure, we’re not likely to forget the score of that game, it was legendary!
