I can’t believe but all three of my kids have ended the spring tee-ball/softball/baseball season in first place! Each one did well for their teams, with Juliane and Clay playing in a competitive league. The one who shined the most was Hannah in tee-ball! She did great fielding and showed an aggressive side that we hadn’t seen before. I helped coach her team, while Mariah juggled the other two, which made for a pretty busy spring for us.
Clay and Juliane will be playing in the “City Tournament” starting next week. Its a double game elimination, which means we’ll be at the ball fields all week. Jude’s team did well in China Spring, but they’re not expected to compete against area power houses in softball. There’s a community called Midway that usually tears it up in girls softball. Clay’s team finished undefeated and has a good shot at winning the tournament. He has two kids who can both pitch 65-67 mph in a controlled, consistent manner. That translates to over 90 mph from a major league mound. If they win, they’ll go on to the state tournament in July!
Our kids have done pretty well in sports in Texas. The girls won their basketball tournament in China Spring, and Clay usually played as the top kid on the floor in his league. They seem to have a good spirit on their teams, yet compete pretty aggressively. We’re proud of how they’re doing, but look forward to some time off from the hectic schedule kids sports bring. As good as they’ve done so far, we’re being pretty realistic on their progression into Jr High and High School athletics. There’s no way we’re going to play the “select” team game, and that might limit our kids as they get older.
In the end, what we both hope for is athletic kids who do well in school and can go to college with all their knees and ankles in order! If one breaks through and shocks us with college athletic skills, its just going to mean more time at the ball-field/gym! I think I would rather see them do good in school, and end up paying for tickets for their parents to see professional games!
