I was so pumped a few years ago when we bit the bullet and bought new appliances. We got a front loader washer and was immediately impressed with the savings on water and how you almost had to be on top of it to hear anything. When we brought it home I almost killed Mariah getting it down into the basement, with my leg in a cast from having a tumor in my ankle, I almost dropped the thing down the stairs after slipping on the snow covered landing at the back door. I was paid back getting it out of the basement for the move to Waco, dropping the %&*#! thing on the same stupid ankle after wrestling it up the stairs. So to say the least, I have alot invested in this washer!
Just before we moved Mariah started to get error messages, and would spend a few frustrated moments getting it working again. Of course, as things progressed and the errors became more often we brought in a repair man and heard the bad news that it was going to cost close to $500 to fix! Right off the bat I said “no way” and decided to buy a new one, until of course I started pricing out new ones! We’re going to fix the washer now, and it just is frusterating beyond belief!
My parents used the same washer/dryer my whole life, and I’d bet good money they didn’t spend 1/3 of what I did for them. I would joke about hitting the coin laundry again, but I’ve gotten too used to going to the drawers and finding clean underwear and socks every morning. When you consider technology and advancement, I think the only thing that has really advanced is the ability of large corporations to make money off all us poor brothas who just want clean underpants!
Amos is the pastor at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. He is married to Mariah, and they have three children: Clay, Juliane, and Hannah. Mariah keeps Amos cool and up-to-date, while Amos keeps Mariah loose and occasionally frustrated.
