In case you were wondering … I’m an Idiot

I recently attempted to go fishing with the family.  So far the fish in Texas have been safe from our move here, the only thing any of us have caught here is the swine flu.  While on the fishing adventure I tried to “toss” Juliane onto a boulder near the water’s shoreline, this is where I confirmed that at times I’m an idiot.

In my mind I thought Juliane would land somewhat like Bruce Lee, but I obviously didn’t take into consideration that Bruce Lee never had me toss him, and I had forgotten that Juliane has the coordination of my sister Angie, and not the coordination of a martial arts master.  Long and short, she landed flat on her back, with her head whipping backwards, thankfully not hitting the rock. 

Praise God she wasn’t seriously hurt, but she did suffer from muscle tension for a few days.  Of course this happened on Halloween, and she hurt too bad to go trick or treating.  It only made the night that much more difficult being away from our friends back in Detroit.

When your kids are dumb and get hurt there is solice in the life lesson learned, when you hurt your kids there’s nothing but deep anguish because somehow you forgot those life lessons from earlier. 

You want to protect you children, not hurt them.  Physically its hard to handle, but the emotional and spiritual wounds worry me the most.  Will I be able to protect my children from these invisible wounds, or will moments of stupidity hurt them at a level I can’t see?

You can’t keep your child from being hurt, its a natural way of life for humans, all you can do is your best from hurting them yourself.  I hope I can protect my family from mistakes I am fully capable of making, and have them grow up with a healthy, scar free view of faith and their father.  Oh, and also from landing on too many boulders by the riverside as well!
